Prompt: Writing. What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it?
See, here’s the problem, I’m much more than just a writer. It’s a damn good thing! Let’s make this applicable to a wider range of things. How about, what do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to productivity – and can you eliminate it? There, that’s more inclusive.
Well, as I discussed this morning, eliminating anxiety would be quite a help. I spend more of my day worrying about what I have to do than actually doing those things. I angst over how hard the evening’s run is going to be. I bite my fingers when I think about getting out my sheet music and actually doing what I love more than anything else in the whole world: singing.
Instead I start tweeting about how I wish I were drinking.
Can I eliminate it? Well, I did a pretty good job of that this morning.
What about those other distractions? Oh, like Facebook, Twitter, other blogs, and the entire interweb? Yeah, the same thing that facilitates my writing also distracts from it. Oh irony.
Let’s face it, though, I like the distractions.
I still get my workout done (except for then I fall asleep at 6:45pm on a Wednesday night), I write my blog posts, I even get in a super awesome Hollaback post about how to do TMI well. Go read it! Now!
I’ll nix the anxiety but I’m keeping the rest!
