It was totally impromptu but here I am, doing it.

Okay, so I’m not technically running and it it’s actually 26.2 miles. I mean, it isn’t even really a distance, more a time thing. Oh, and there’s no exercise involved.

…but it feels like a marathon.

What’s actually going on? I work in a team of three. Yesterday and today both of my team members are sick. That means I’m fulfilling both the extra hours and the work of three people.

Marathon, right?

That’s not all. After work, I have two engagements to go to. I’m about as excited for each of these as is humanly possible. I’m not being sarcastic, I’m really pumped and have my dress awaiting me in my car.

Besides complaining (about work, not the after work activities), I do have a point. Three points actually.

1. I could not have done this a year ago – I had neither the energy or the patience. Eating better has changed my personality somewhat. I don’t get nearly as grumpy as I used to. Apparently your body and mind are happier when you are getting the proper balance of nutrients.

The ability to work a longer day might not be a perk in the minds of many but think about it, the extra stamina extends far beyond work. Tonight it extends to classy wine tasting and trashy clubbing. That, my friends, is a good day.

2. Life happens during weight loss – I had planned last night to do strength training and then to run tonight but there are clearly not enough hours in the day to make that happen. It’s okay. Flexibility is a huge necessity in weight loss. I’ll be making up my workouts this weekend… and who says clubbing isn’t a fabulous workout? It is.

3. Vegetables are more important on days like today – As much as I’d like to say, “hey man, I earned this pizza, soda, Butterfingers, orange danish, meringue, seven cookies, angel food cake, Reece’s, Smarties (brain food!), Slurpee, peanut butter and fluff sandwich, second slice of pizza, another soda, three glasses of wine (no, wait, I really will have those), half rack of ribs, Cheetos, and an orange (to keep things healthy) you’ll function much better snacking on vegetables and nuts instead.
